MUSEUM VISIT

Prior to the visit, informational packets will be sent to each school participating in the program, containing background and historical information on the Center. Post-visit surveys for the instructors will be provided to fill out and handed in immediately after the tour.

When the students arrive at MAC, they will be divided into three groups of approximately 20 students (based on a busload of 60). A trained docent will lead each group.

Group 1: Gallery Tour, including a brief history of the Maitland Art Center and a tour of the current exhibition. Student dialogue is encouraged.

Group 2: Chapel Courtyard Hands-on Activity, where the unique architecture of the Art Center will be discussed. Students will produce a rubbing of the sculptural cement reliefs in the Mayan Room area.

Group 3: Artist Studio Tour, where students will meet a professional artist and tour their studio space at the Art Center. Artists include potters, painters, sculptors, or other type.

The groups rotate until all have experienced each segment. Total tour time is approximately one hour. Lunch may be scheduled for the garden area, or down by Lake Sybelia.

To schedule YOUR tour to the MAC, please print out the following form and mail (or e-mail) to: Ann Colvin, Education Coordinator, Maitland Art Center, 231 W. Packwood Ave., Maitland FL 32751-5596.
