COMING IN JANUARY…
A workshop for Art Teachers! Using a model we will create images for dynamic compositions using a variety of drawing and painting materials. Keep checking our website for details.
The Maitland Art Center offers tours among other educational resource opportunities to the community. OCPS funds can cover grades 2-6 class tours by schools in Orange County through the auspices of United Arts of Central Florida. Other grade level tours are available, also. EDUCATIONAL
FIELD TRIPto the MAITLAND ART CENTER PROGRAM PURPOSE To provide an interesting and enjoyable program for students that is also educational and non-didactic. Program intentions include: Encouraging creative thinking and decision-making referencing aesthetic disciplines including architecture, visual arts, and cultural history Enabling better understanding of the creative process through hands-on experiences Encouraging greater awareness and appreciation of the visual arts and the creative process in today’s students – the patrons of tomorrow ![]() Pictured at right: MAC founder Jules André Smith (1880-1959) MUSEUM VISIT Prior to the visit, informational packets will be sent to each school participating in the program, containing background and historical information on the Center. Post-visit surveys for the instructors will be provided to fill out and handed in immediately after the tour. When the students arrive at MAC, they will be divided into three groups of approximately 20 students (based on a busload of 60). A trained docent will lead each group. Group
1: Gallery Tour, including a brief history of the Maitland Art
Center and a tour of the current exhibition. Student dialogue is
encouraged.Group 2: Chapel Courtyard Hands-on Activity, where the unique architecture of the Art Center will be discussed. Students will produce a rubbing of the sculptural cement reliefs in the Mayan Room area. Group 3: Artist Studio Tour, where students will meet a professional artist and tour their studio space at the Art Center. Artists include potters, painters, sculptors, or other type. The groups rotate until all have experienced each segment. Total tour time is approximately one hour. Lunch may be scheduled for the garden area, or down by Lake Sybelia.
