Recharge your creative batteries by working with a live model in a variety of poses, collaging images for dynamic compositions.  Using a variety of media, you will achieve energetic individual images!  Color theory and concepts of strong composition will guide you as we move from naturalism to abstraction.

This special workshop is targeted for teachers, with a limited enrollment of 20 teachers.  The workshop features as instructor well-known artist and teacher Marianna Ross.  Marianna received her MFA in Painting from the University of Arizona, and a BFA from the San Francisco Art Institute.  Her work may be found in many private and public collections, including the AAA Corporate Headquarters, the Renaissance Hotel, and Walt Disney World.  She retired in 2006 as Professor of Art, Seminole Community College, after teaching 34 years in several states.

Sunday January 18  12 noon-2:00 p.m.     STUDIO 2
Tuition: $90.00 Non-members $81.00 Members

Working with a mixture of white cement and perlite and starting with a small box of wet cement we will create a block that is carvable for a two day window until it becomes too hard to work. The first day involves a very physical process of planning, mixing, and carving. The second day will be for finishing and filling surfaces. The finished piece looks much like marble and can be placed outdoors.

FOUND OBJECT STUDIO
Instructor: Richard T. Reep
Sunday, January 18, 2009 from 1-4 pm    STUDIO 4

Tuition: $40.00 members / $50.00 nonmembers (includes all materials).  Students are requested to bring items that can be classified as found objects for use during the demonstration.

SYLLABUS: Overview, Background, Process, Experiments, Workshop, Suggested Readings.

The instructor will refresh students with a short history of the Found Object in Western Art, then contrast this with the history of the Found Object in Asian art and culture.  This will provide a foundation for understanding.  The instructor will then reveal an approach to found object art.  The approach will be verbalized and illustrated, using examples from the artist’s own body of work as well as others.  Students are invited to bring objects to the class for participation in a found object workshop.  The instructor will take the students through a process that can lead to works of art.  Final, finished pieces are not the goal of this workshop; rather, the goal is to reveal an insight into a process which can yield individual and unique results to each artist.  A question-and-answer discussion period will close the workshop.  A handout will include a more complete syllabus and a reading list.
